His Military Experience

Greg Ball falsely portrays himself as a leader who served honorably on active duty in the US Air Force.  In reality, he took a taxpayer funded, all-expense-paid college education at the Air Force Academy and then left the service prior to fulfilling his commitment.  Ball has given numerous unconvincing excuses for his early release but when you peel back the many lies, it is apparent that he was afraid of being transferred.

Here are the facts - backed up by the documentation:

·         On page 35 of the Academy's course catalogue under “Service Obligation” it states: “Before you take the oath of Allegiance, you’ll sign an agreement… to serve as a commissioned officer in the Air Force for at least eight years after graduation – five of which must be active duty, and the remainder can be served in the inactive reserve. You become eligible to request a separation from the Air Force after five years of service.”

·         Mr. Ball graduated from the Air Force Academy in May of 2001. Why then was he sent home after serving little more than 3 years and why has he never, ever, joined a reserve component.  Imagine what his classmates have accomplished in that same period.  In this time of Armed Conflict, the question for Mr. Ball is “when men and women twice your age serve proudly around the world, who filled your boots?”

·         A more disturbing look at Mr. Ball’s “claimed military service” is what he actually accomplished while wearing the uniform.  Let’s face it, after taxpayers forked over the more than $600,000 to educate Ball through graduation day at the Academy, isn’t it reasonable to expect him to become a leader in his branch of service?  After all, he signed a contract to do so.  A quick examination of the Air Force Academy Catalogue under usual military careers reveals a list of positions like Fighter Pilots, Air Battle Managers, Space Operations, Aircraft Maintenance, Logistics and Mission Support.  What did Greg do?  He served in a ROTC position at St. Josephs University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and then, after displaying acts of bizarre behavior, was transferred to Bolling Air Force Base as a Protocol Officer?  The behavior included many incidents and confrontations with a female Major in his chain of command.

·         After reviewing Ball’s past public statements, it is evident that he never reports about his time in Philadelphia.  He always says: “I am a graduate of the Air Force Academy and served as a Protocol Officer in Washington where I was awarded an Achievement Medal for Outstanding Service by the Air Force Chief of Staff.”  The medal was given for his participation in coordinating a “Chiefs Conference” in Washington not for any heroic achievement on the battlefield. Achievement medals of this type are not rare and are always signed by the Chief of Staff.

·         The fact remains that Mr. Ball has never come clean about his time in the military.  His record is a disgrace and he is a fraud. He did not serve his time as was required and on his DD214 the reason for his military separation is listed as “miscellaneous.”  He never mentions the fact that he wrote on July 19, 2004 that he did not want to be transferred because he wanted to stay in Washington to study. Was he afraid that his new duty station might be abroad?  When the Military refused to leave him where he was, he got out.  Why? Greg Ball knows why! The United States Air Force Academy is in the business of producing brave men and women who lead airmen in our nation’s defense.  There is only one reason for an armed service academy and Mr. Ball has disgraced himself and has dishonored his classmates.
